Working at 't Poortje
You rent a room by the shift, seven days a week, between 11:00 and 00:45. Beyond that, you decide how you work.
The shifts
You rent by the shift. Within the shift you rent you set your own hours: you do not have to be there for the whole block.
- Day shift11:00 to 19:00
- Evening shift19:00 to 00:45
- Full day11:00 to 00:45
You are welcome from 11:00, even if you start later. Visitors can come in from 11:30.
What you are renting
You rent a room, by the shift. That is all. There is no open-ended contract, no employment and no exclusivity: you are not employed by us and you do not work for us.
What happens between you and a visitor is your business. We rent out the space, keep it clean and safe, and put breakfast out in the morning.

Everything is there, as in a hotel
Bed linen, towels, soap and paper are provided and included in the price. You are not carrying laundry or cleaning supplies around.
Every room is cleaned by us daily. Whatever else is in the room, you will hear before you rent it.
What it costs
Rent is settled per shift. The times are above.
Ask us for the current amounts; how to reach us is on the contact page. We will tell you straight away what is and is not included in the rent, so you can compare it with another location.

Breakfast is ready for you
Breakfast is ready for you every morning in the shared room. It is included in the rent, you do not have to arrange anything for it and there are no strings attached.
If you feel like catching up with the other ladies, that is the moment. If you would rather sit quietly on your own, that is fine too. There is also a snack to be had at any point in the day.
What to bring
- Valid photo identification. Passport or ID card, not a copy, not a photo on your phone
- A citizen service number, the Dutch BSN, formerly the sofinummer. If you do not have one yet, you apply for it at the municipality
- A registration with the Chamber of Commerce, the Dutch KvK. You work as a self-employed person and arrange your own registration and tax affairs
- Whatever you need to work. We will tell you in advance what is already in the room
If you have not sorted your paperwork yet, just say so. We can tell you what is needed and where to apply for it. What we will not do is let you work without valid papers.
You work independently
That is not a form of words, it is how it works:
- You decide who you work with. You may refuse anyone, without explanation and without consequences for your rent
- You decide what you offer and what you charge for it. We do not interfere and we do not take a percentage
- You decide your own hours, within the shifts you rent
- You settle up directly with the visitor. No money goes through us
There is one floor: a minimum of fifty euros per fifteen to twenty minutes. Visitors know from this site that arrangements start there. What you charge above that is your call.
We do not put names, profiles or recognisable photographs of the women who work here on this website. No faces, nothing anyone could identify you by. That is not a temporary choice and it does not change.
Where you work
The rooms, the passage between them and the courtyard they open onto.
Safety
The courtyard is closed off with a turnstile. Visitors put two euros in the machine to get in. That keeps passers-by and groups away from the entrance and keeps the courtyard quiet.
There is management on site. If something is not right, if you feel uncomfortable or if you want someone off the premises, you report it and it gets dealt with.
There are cameras in and around the building, for your safety and that of visitors and staff. Not in the rooms: there is no camera there and that does not change.
The house rules are on the front door and on this site, so a visitor can have read them before he is inside. Work here is done safely, entry is from 21, and alcohol, drugs, violence and weapons do not come in. If you refuse something on the basis of those rules, you are not on your own.
Coming to look first
You can come and look around without agreeing to anything. Let us know beforehand through the contact page, so you know someone is there to show you around and answer your questions.
Independent information and support
These organisations are independent of us. You do not have to tell us if you contact them, and we do not hear what you discuss with them.
- GGD Kennemerland, Centrum Seksuele Gezondheid
The public health service for the Haarlem region. Their sexual health centre does STI testing and gives advice on sexual health. Confidential, and you do not need a referral.
023 515 9500 - Amsterdam Center for Sex Workers (ACS)
Care and information specifically for sex workers: STI testing, social work, support with abuse or exploitation, and advice about your work. Based in Amsterdam, independent of where you work, and open to you even though you work here. If someone is pressuring you or forcing you into things you do not want, you can go to them for that too. Site in Dutch, English and Spanish.
